Weinacker Advances at D'Novo/ITA All-American

TULSA, Okla. - Senior Jay Weinacker advanced in the first round of qualifying singles matches at the D'Novo/ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla., on Monday, Oct. 6. Weinacker defeated Jason Mcnaughton of Southern California, 6-3, 6-4, to move to the second round. He will face Gera Boryachinskiy of Clemson on Tuesday, Oct. 7. Weinacker must win two more matches to advance to the main draw of the tournament.
Senior Christian Welte, who had competed in the prequalifying singles, earned a bid to the qualifying singles. He fell in the third set of a tight match against Anton Stryhas (Sacramento State), 3-6, 6-2, 6-4. Welte will face Gustave Diep of New Mexico State in the consolation round.
Weinacker and Welte will also compete in the qualifying doubles of the tournament starting tomorrow. The duo will face Mateusz Kecki and Abdullah Magdas of Southern California. Senior Derek Stephens and freshman Jaime Pulgar will also compete in doubles play, and will take on Kriegler Brink and Zach Nichols of TCU on Tuesday.
