Men's Tennis Heads to D'Novo/ITA All-American

RALEIGH, N.C. Five members of the NC State men’s tennis team will make the trip to Tusla, Okla., this weekend to compete in the D’Novo/ITA All-American Championships. The tournament, which begins on Friday, Oct. 3 and is hosted by the University of Tulsa at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center, starts with the pre-qualifying singles round. The qualifying round for both singles and doubles will be from Oct. 6-8, and the main draw will be Oct. 9-12.
Seniors Derek Stephens and Christian Welte, sophomore David Chermak, and freshman Jaime Pulgar will all compete in the pre-qualifying singles round. The draw consists of 256 singles players and only 16 will advance to the qualifying round. To advance, a player must win four rounds. Senior Jay Weinacker received a bid to begin play in the qualifying singles round, and out of the 128 players in that round, only 16 will advance to the main draw, and a player must win three rounds to advance.
Weinacker and Welte will also compete in the qualifying doubles, which begins Oct. 7. Out of 64 doubles teams, only eight will advance to the main draw. To advance, a doubles team must win three rounds.
