Women's Tennis Wraps Up USTA Invite

NEW YORK, N.Y. The NC State women’s tennis team completed day two of the USTA National Tennis Center Invitational on Sunday, Oct. 12, in New York, N.Y., with two doubles wins and four singles wins. Senior Neils Barringer and freshman Diana Mortlock teamed up to defeat pairs from Columbia and Army in the doubles consolation round. Barringer, Mortlock, and freshman Pender Sessoms also earned singles wins.
Barringer and Mortlock defeated Natalia Christenson and Natasha Makarova (Columbai), 8-3, and then took down Jurelle Mendoza and Robie Verano (Army), 8-3.
Barringer won her singles match of the day over Emily Harman of Syracuse, 6-2, 6-2, and then in an extra round of play, she earned a win over Victoria Ford, 6-1, 6-1. Sessoms earned the victory over Victoria Ford (Syracuse), 6-0, 6-2. In her second match of the day, Sessoms lost to Leonora Slatnick of Rutgers, 7-5, 6-1.
Mortlock also competed in singles, falling to Sarah Lederhander of Yale, 7-6(4), 6-3. In the extra singles round, Mortlock defeated Alina Sullivan (Boston College), 5-7, 6-1, 1-0(10-8).
The Pack will next compete at the ITA Regional Indoors beginning Oct. 22 in Winston-Salem, N.C.
