Mortlock Advances to Semifinals at USTA Invite

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Freshman Diania Mortlock advanced to the semifinal round at the USTA National Tennis Center Invitational in New York, Ny. on Saturday, Oct. 11. She swiftly defeated Allison Haynes from Syracuse, 6-0, 6-0, in her first match of the day, and quickly overpowered Ashley Spicer from Syracuse, 6-3, 6-4, to earn a spot in the semifinals, which she will compete in on Sunday, Oct. 12.
Senior Neils Barringer won her first match of the day over Michael Tollerton of Army, 6-1, 6-1, but the fell to Katarina Gajic of Boston College, 6-0, 6-2. Junior Daria Petrovic also earned a win over Dzana Ferhatbegovic of Fairleigh Dickinson, 6-0, 6-1. She fell in the quarterfinal round to Tatiana Ganzha of Purdue in the third set 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. Freshman Pender Sessoms also competed, but fell to Cate Stewart from Brown, 6-2, 6-0.
Barringer and Mortlock also competed in doubles play, but were defeated by Christina Amo and Sheri Olivier from Texas A&M, 8-4.
