12 Rebounds Away from 1,000
Senior Khadijah Whittington is 12 rebounds away from 1,000 for her career, which would make her only the 16th player in ACC history to do so. UNC's Erlana Larkins will enter her game Saturday with 994 rebounds. This would also make Whittington only the fourth Wolfpacker to turn the trick.
Working Overtime
Khadijah Whittington and Shayla Fields are tied atop the ACC in logging the most minutes per game in the ACC. Both NC State stars are punching in 34.16 minutes per game. Fields has played the last 167 straight minutes for the Wolfpack spanning five games. She has not come out of the four ACC games this year and has played seven full contests this season. Whittington has gone the distance five times.
Zullo Finally Visits the Free Throw Line
It took red-shirt freshman guard Megan Zullo 540 minutes into her career, spanning two seasons, to finally go to the free throw line. In the 25th game of her career, she converted both attempts from the stripe.
Shayla Fields Becomes Steady Second Option
Junior Shayla Fields has scored in double figures in 12 of the last 14 games. She has led the team in scoring in four of the last five games, averaging 16.0 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game.
A Revolving Starting Five
After using the same starting lineup the first 15 games of the year, NC State has been forced to use a different lineup three times over the last four games due to a rash of injuries over the last three weeks. Chanita Jordan scored nine points and grabbed eight rebounds in her starting debut at Boston College (1/6). Jordan has averaged 8.8 points on 64.3 percent (18-28) shooting and 5.4 rebounds over the last four games. Sharnise Beal made her first start against North Carolina (1/13) and responded with nine points and four rebounds. She has averaged 9.0 points and 4.3 boards in the past six games. Megan Zullo was re-inserted into the starting five against Georgia Tech (1/17) after Nikitta Gartrell turned an ankle in practice that week, but Gartrell was back in at Duke, replacing Zullo.
Gartrell Flourishing in Second Year with Pack
There hasn't been a sophomore slump for shooting guard Nikitta Gartrell. The Atlanta, Ga., native is third on the club with 9.3 points per game, leads all guards on the team with 4.0 rebounds and is second on the club with 2.8 assists per game. Gartrell has scored in double figures 11 times in 19 games (18 starts).
Tia Bell Arrives on the Scene
After playing only 36 minutes and scoring one point the first 16 games, freshman Tia Bell has played 39 minutes over the past three games, including 17 minutes against North Carolina and set season-highs with six points and seven rebounds. She followed that up with seven rebounds and a team-best four blocks against Georgia Tech.
