M. Tennis Opens Play at Virginia Invitational

The Wolfpack men's tennis team finished day one at the Virginia Fall Invitational with No. 55 Nick Cavaday, No. 125 Jay Weinacker and Christian Welte competing and opening with Weinacker and Cavaday opening with first round wins.

Cavaday, the No. 2 seed in the second singles flight, defeated Dan Nguyen of Harvard in his opening match, 6-4, 6-2. Cavaday would be upset by Albert Larregola of Virginia Tech in the second round, however, losing 6-4, 7-5 in a tightly contested match.

Weinacker took out Eidy Igarashi of Old Dominion in his opener, 6-4, 6-4, before falling to the No. 2 seed in his bracket, Martin Sayer of Radford after losing a marathon first set. The set went into a tiebreaker with Sayer winning 11-9 and then taking the second set 6-1.

Welte lost his first match, 6-4, 6-4, to Treat Huey of Virginia, the No. 1 seed in that bracket, before advancing to the consolation final with a 6-1, 6-3 win over James Lloyd of Radford.
