Kay Yow on facing adversity
"If you live long enough, it's inevitable that we're going to face adversity of some kind. It's not the adversity that we face that's the most important thing. It's how we deal with that adversity. "
NC State associate head coach Stephanie Glance on Yow
"She always sees the best in people. And she sees a person for who and what they can become. Maybe not where they are initially as they come in as a player or a staff member, but she just sees the potential in every person, every year."
Kay Yow's best memory from the 2006-07 season
"On the court, it really would have to be the North Carolina game at home because it was senior night, the court was named after me and we beat a team, our arch rival, that was ranked number two in the country. I think that that has to be the basketball highlight because it was a perfect script. After the game was over I said I couldn't have written a more perfect script. There is nothing else I could have added to it."
NC State basketball player Marquetta Dickens on Yow's battle against cancer
"{Coach Yow} said that resting doesn't cure cancer. A lot of people wouldn't think like that."
Yow's message to others struggling with adversity
"I want to say to them `Press on.' Don't quit. Don't give up. Press on. And I want to say what you focus on means everything. You cannot focus on your adversity."
Television analyst Debbie Antonelli during the 2007 ACC Women's Basketball Tournament game between NC State vs. Duke, when NC State upset Duke 70-65
"When you see your coach battling for her life, {the players} understand what it means. They get it. They play together with the ultimate goal in mind of winning for their coach."
Texas head coach and former Duke head coach Gail Goestenkors
"All the things that make our game great are epitomized by Kay Yow."
Duke men's basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski
"I think when you think of Kay, the word `courage' just hits you right over the head. This is a courageous lady."
Indiana men's basketball head coach Kelvin Sampson
"There is not a coach in any profession, whether it's football, basketball, baseball, college or high school that I respect more than Kay Yow...Women's basketball is a better sport today because of Kay Yow."
