RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State softball heads to Tallahassee, Fla., as the No. 2 seed at the 2007 ACC Championships, May 10-13. Holding a record of 41-17, the Pack will look to capture its second ACC title in as many years. State enters the conference battle royale having won 17 of its last 18 games, including a school-record 16 game winning streak that spanned April 7-28. Of those 17 wins, 11 came against league competition.
The Pack will take on seventh-seeded Boston College on Thursday, May 10, at 12:30 p.m. Live stats will be available on GoPack.com. ACC Select will offer live video coverage of the entire tournament online.
Aside from serving as NC State's opening game at the tournament, the Boston College contest holds the potential for serving as a benchmark achievement for head coach Lisa Navas. With a 499-224-1 record in 13 seasons filling out the lineup card, Navas stands just one win shy of her 500th career victory.
State leads the all-time series between the two programs, 7-0. The Pack swept the Eagles in a three-game league stand earlier this season in Chestnut Hill, Mass. The two teams have met once before at the ACC Championships, with State downing the Eagles 8-0 in five innings during the first round of last year’s event.
The Wolfpack posted a 15-6 slate in regular season ACC play, going 8-1 at home and 7-5 on the road. NC State won five of its seven series played, downing Florida State, Boston College, Virginia, North Carolina and Maryland. Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech both took two-of-three from the Pack in back-to-back weekends on the road. The Pack finished strong, however, taking its last four series and losing just one contest (7-4 to Maryland) during that span.
State outscored all opponents in ACC action this season, bringing in 102 runs compared to 59 by the rest of the league. ACC foes only managed to outscore the Pack in one inning, recording 28 runs in the sixth while NC State only managed 15.
NC State posts a 6-5 all-time record at the ACC Championships. In the program's inaugural season of 2004, the Pack made a quick exit with a 0-2 performance. In 2005 the team topped North Carolina before dropping two straight, good for a 1-2 mark. Last season State captured the title, winning in the first round, falling in its second game, and then reeling off four-straight to bring the crown to Raleigh.
