RALEIGH, N.C. - Recent NC State graduate and four-year letterwinner Heather Gelbard has been named to the CoSida Academic All-District 2007 Softball second-team for District III. A senior native of Miami, Fla., Gelbard posted a 3.83 GPA in psychology while serving as the Pack's leading offensive threat on the field this season.
"I'm happy for her to receive this award," said head coach Lisa Navas. "It just shows that she is a well-rounded athlete. She has been an model student-athlete for this program for four years."
A second-team All-ACC selection in 2005 and 2007, Gelbard led State this season with a .345 overall batting average, including a 10-game hitting streak throughout the middle stretch of the season. She also collected at least 60 hits during each of her four seasons in a Wolfpack uniform. Her 69 hits this past year stand as a personal record, three more than her previous personal high of 66 set in 2005.
Gelbard leads the Wolfpack program in several all-time career categories, including batting average, games started, at-bats, hits, and doubles.
Off of the field, Gelbard was named to the ACC Honor Roll every year. She was also named a third-team 2005 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America by CoSida.
