ATHENS, Ga. - A week removed from breaking into the Elite Eight for the first time in program history with an emotional 4-3 win over No. 11 Texas at the NCAA Championships, NC State's Nick Cavaday and William Noblitt will represent the Pack in the doubles championships draw beginning on Thursday, May 24. Play will be held at the Dan MaGill Tennis Complex on the University of Georgia campus.
"The guys are looking forward to playing," said head coach Jon Choboy. "They have some high aspirations and they feel like they can do very well. They want to add another chapter to what's already been a special season."
Currently ranked No. 13 nationally, the Wolfpack doubles duo is one of just 32 tag-team tandems competing in the field. With a 13-7 record on the year, two wins in the draw will cement both netters into All-America status for doubles play.
Cavaday and Noblitt will take on Mississippi's No. 24 Eric Claesson and Erling Tveit on Thursday. At press time, the time of first serve still had not been established.
"Claesson and Tveit are big hitters," said Choboy. "Both are big, strong guys. It's going be a tough task for our guys, but they are looking forward to it. There's no question about that."
The winner of Thursday's match will battle the victor of Miami's No. 5 Josh Cohen and Luigi D'Agord and Texas Tech's No. 33 Christian Rojman and Bojan Szumanski.
The round of 16 will be played on Friday, May 25, with the quarterfinals on Saturday, May 26, semifinals on Sunday, May 27, and the championship bout on Monday, May 28.
