No. 27 Men's Tennis Advances to NCAA 2nd Round

Chapel Hill, N.C. - The No. 27 NC State men's tennis team advanced to the 2nd round of the NCAA Championships with a 4-0 win over No. 43 William & Mary on Friday, May 11th, in Chapel Hill, N.C. In only the fourth appearance in Wolfpack history, NC State collected its first ever team NCAA Championship win. The victory improves the Pack to 21-9, and the Tribe finishes its season at 16-12.
Junior David Rozek and sophomore Christian Welte quickly defeated Kavi Sud and Alex Zuck, 8-2, at No. 3. The No. 13 team of junior Nick Cavaday and senior William Noblitt secured the doubles point and an early advantage for the Pack, overpowering Alex Cojanu and Keziel Juneau, 8-4, at No. 1.
Colin O'Brien and Dominic Pagon were on top of freshman James McGee and sophomore Jay Weinacker, 7-6, at No. 2, when the set was stopped after the Pack won the doubles point.
McGee improved the Pack's lead by defeating Marwan Ramadan, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 4, and senior Andre Iriarte put the Pack one point away from the win with the victory over Pagon, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 6.
No. 92 Cavaday battled through the heat to gather the third singles win and advance the Pack to the second round of the NCAA Championships with the win over O'Brien, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 1.
When play stopped, Noblitt was down in the third set to Cojanu, 4-6, 6-2, 3-0, at No. 2. Weinacker was also down in his third set to Juneau, 6-3, 3-6, 4-1, at No. 3, and Welte was up in his second set to Zuck, 4-6, 5-4, at No. 5.
NC State will face North Carolina tomorrow in the second round of the NCAA Championships in Chapel Hill, N.C at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. The match will begin at 4 p.m and the winner will advance to the Sweet 16 in Athens, Ga.
