RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State softball will host Charlotte for a two-game non conference stand at the Walnut Creek Softball Complex on Tuesday, April 10. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 3 p.m., with the second contest starting around 5 p.m. The date marks the first time all season that the Pack has taken to the diamond on a Tuesday. Live stats will be available for all games via GoPack.com.
State begins the week with a 27-16 (7-5 ACC) record, while the 49ers come into town at 22-16 (2-4 A10). The Wolfpack is currently riding a three-game winning streak, while Charlotte has collected two wins in its last six games.
Head coach Lisa Navas and her squad grabbed a crucial three-game ACC sweep at Boston College over the past weekend, outscoring the Eagles 19-4. The Pack slugged nine home runs total, including a school-record six dingers during the second game of the series. Heather Gelbard crushed three long balls throughout the road trip, while Allison Presnell and Jen Chamberlin each blasted two. Shanna Smith led the squad at the plate, batting .625 throughout play.
Chamberlin’s second blast of the weekend, the 47th of her career, made her the all-time leader in ACC career home runs. Meanwhile, teammate Abbie Sims stands just two strikeouts shy of becoming just the fifth player in league history to collect 1,000 or more fanned batters.
The Pack enters the series as the No. 3 squad in the ACC.
The 49ers Kristi Killough set the program’s career home run record with her 19th shot during at doubleheader at La Salle on Friday, April 6. Evan Miller leads the team with a .364 battling clip.
The all-time series between the two programs is knotted at 2-2, as both series in 2004 and 2006 were split. In 2004 the Pack dropped game one 2-1 before run-ruling the 49ers 8-0 in five innings. Last season State opened the series with another five-inning run-rule victory, 11-0, before losing game two 6-4.
The Wolfpack will travel to UNC Greensboro for two contests on Thursday, April 12, before getting back into ACC play. NC State will end the week by hosting Virginia for three games, two on Saturday, April 14, before the finale on Sunday, April 15.
