After a strong run into the Sweet 16, NC State garnered a No. 12 ranking in the final USA Today/ESPN Coaches' Poll.
The Wolfpack Women finished the 2006-07 season with a stellar 25-10 record, the program's most victories since the Final Four run of 1997-98.
NC State, which traditionally plays one of the tougher schedules in the land, wound up playing four of the top-7 ranked teams this season, including No. 3 North Carolina three times and No. 6 Duke on two occasions. The Wolfpack defeated both local-conference rivals this season, including then top-ranked and undefeated Duke in the semifinals of the ACC Tournament in Greensboro, N.C. Two weeks prior to the win over the Blue Devils, the Pack took down UNC on senior night when NC State dedicated the Reynolds Coliseum court, "Kay Yow Court."
NC State also fell to No. 5 Connecticut in the Fresno Regional semifinals of the NCAA Tournament to bring its historic season to an end. Way back in November, the Pack lost to Purdue in the semifinals of the WNIT Tournament. The Boilermakers finished the year ranked No. 7.
Other opponents this season that finished in the top-25 were Maryland at No.14, Florida State at No. 19 and Baylor at No. 20. The Wolfpack defeated the Seminoles twice this season and beat Baylor in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, played at the RBC Center in Raleigh.
All together, NC State went 5-6 against team'sfinished ranked among the top-25 and was the only team in the NCAA Tournament to defeat two No. 1 seeds (Duke, North Carolina) this year.
Just this week, center Gillian Goring and guard Ashley Key were selected in the third round of the 2007 WNBA Draft on Wednesday afternoon in Cleveland, Ohio. Goring went 32nd overall to the Washington Mystics, while Key was selected three spots later by the Indiana Fever at No. 35.
