RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State men's tennis will stand as the No. 7 seed at the 2007 ACC Men's Tennis Championship, held this Thursday, April 19 through Sunday, April 22 at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C. The Pack will take on 10th seeded Virginia Tech in the opening round on Thursday at 12 p.m., with the winner battling No. 2 North Carolina on Friday at 12 p.m.
State downed the Hokies, 4-3, earlier this season on March 25 in Raleigh. VT opened play by collecting the doubles point, but four wins in singles action led to the Pack's win.
NC State ended its regular season yesterday with a 4-3 win over No. 33 Miami on Senior Day at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center.
The Pack enters the tournament with a 20-8 (5-6 ACC) record. Virginia Tech stands at 12-11 (3-8 ACC).
This season marks the second time that NC State has won 20 matches in a year. The last time it happened? Try one year ago, when head coach Jon Choboy lead State to a 20-11 slate and its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1999.
Even more, State’s five league victories in the regular season tie the second-highest ever total for the program. The Pack also won five league bouts in 1978. The all-time record is six ACC wins, set in 1980.
