Captain's Corner: A Special Weekend

RALEIGH, N.C. - As we departed Reynolds Coliseum on Friday afternoon you could tell we were all happy for the weekend to get started and head to Boston for our series against BC. Yes, a lot of our faces were smiling because there was no school on Friday, but we all knew it was time for us to bust open and take a series.
From the first moment we got into Boston it was freezing. We were all oblivious to
what it was going to be like when we played. We did, however, know that Coach Navas and G-Bo [Heather Gelbard] were going to be wearing a lot of layers.
Saturday came around and we all stared at each other and laughed when we walked out of the hotel. Yes it was cold, but it wasn’t something that we let affect us the entire series. Saturday was a great day for us because we played great defense, pitchers hit their spots and 1-9 batters hit the ball hard. It was something that we have all been waiting for and the atmosphere in the dugout was unexplainable. In the second game we broke an NC State record with six home runs in the game. It was a great feeling to have to keep walking out to home plate and greet my teammates after a bomb was hit.
Saturday was a great day for me because I finally got the home run record over with. Records are funny because everyone knows about them, but doesn’t ever talk about it. I knew how many I needed, but I never wanted to talk about it because I didn’t want to jinx myself! Stepping on home plate after taking the record is something that I will remember for the rest of my life. I wouldn’t have wanted to step on home plate being greeted by anyone other than the teammates that I have.
Sunday was a lot colder than Saturday so we had to make what we could of our situation. This was the first time in the four years I have played at State where I not only wore two under armors, but also played in a jacket. During agilities we all showed off our dance moves, as well as our “best friends” moves at the club. It was something that kept our mind off of the cold and brought a few laughs to the team.
During the game we pitched, defended and hit very well, allowing us to come out on top in the end. Shanna [Smith] was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate and was all smiles the entire game. I was really happy for her to bust open a perfect game and help the team to a great victory. The Boston College sweep was our first in the ACC this season and it felt so great.
Despite getting delayed nearly three hours at the airport because our plane came in late, the smiles never left our faces. We came together and played like the team that we are. This weekend was a special series that will stick with us for a long time.
