BLACKSBURG, Va. – No. 25 Virginia Tech took the third and final game of the series from No. 24 NC State, 8-0, in five innings on Sunday, April 1, in Blacksburg, Va. The Hokies scored eight runs on eight hits to end the game early, while All-American Angela Tincher (22-3) held the Pack to just two hits. Shaina Ervin (7-10) took the loss. In defeat, the Pack falls to 24-16 (4-5 ACC) on the season, while VT climbs to 28-11 (6-3 ACC).
The Hokies got started with two runs in the second. Stephanie Savre grabbed a leadoff walk, and was replaced by Jenna Rhodes on the basepath. Kelsey Hoffman then moved Rhodes to second with a sac-bunt, and Jessica Everhart took first on a Jen Chamberlin error at third. Charissee Mariconda then grounded out to Chamberlin, moving Everhart to second, and Whitney Davis followed with a double down the left field line, scoring two runs.
Virginia Tech added three more on five his in the bottom of the third. Callie Rhodes collected an infield single, and then scored on a triple to right by Erin Ota. Ota was then caught in a run down and tagged out by Chamberlin, but Caroline Stolle followed with another infield single. Savre then singled again, pushing Stolle to third and forcing Wolfpack head coach Lisa Navas to make some changes. Abbie Sims took over the in circle, Allison Presnell moved from first to right, and Lisa Nentwig came in at first.
Sims began by walking Hoffman to load the bases with one out, and then gave up a two-run base hit to Everhart before ending the inning.

Anna Zitt ended the game in the bottom of the fifth with a three-run shot, her first career home run, to left field.
The loss marked the first time that the Pack had been run-ruled since falling to Virginia, 8-0, in six innings on March 26, 2005.
