GREENSBORO, N.C. – Khadijah Whittington and Gillian Goring of the NC State women’s basketball team earned All-Atlantic Coast Conference accolades, announced Monday by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association.
Whittington, a junior forward from Roanoke, Va., has been selected third team All-ACC after leading the conference in rebounding nearly all season. She enters the postseason tournament averaging 10.3 points and 10.4 rebounds per game this season. Whittington was even better in ACC games, posting 10.3 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.5 blocks in a 10-4 ACC slate, one that wound up tying for third with Maryland and Florida State.
Goring, a second-year transfer from Morvant, Trinidad, was named honorable mention All-ACC after coming on strong in the conference season to average 12.5 points on 54.0 percent (74-of-137) shooting with 7.4 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in ACC play. The 6-7 imposing center for the Wolfpack missed the first six games of the year after having back surgery before the season. Goring wound up averaging 9.7 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.4 blocks this season in 23 games. This is the 18th consecutive year that NC State has had a player earn All-ACC honors.
NC State (21-8) is the No. 4 seed in the upcoming ACC Tournament, which is set to begin on Thursday at the Greensboro Coliseum. The Wolfpack will play the winner of the Florida State/Wake Forest game on Friday morning at 11 am. The game is televised on the Regional Sports Network.
