No. 22 Softball Heads to Tuscaloosa for Crimson Classic

RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State softball team will travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., Friday, Feb. 23 - Sunday, Feb. 25, to compete at the 2007 Hampton Inn Crimson Classic. The three-day affair is hosted by the Alabama Crimson Tide. The tournament field boasts five teams, including No. 5 Alabama, Indiana State, No. 22 NC State, Western Kentucky and Winthrop. The Pack will begin play against Indiana State on Friday at 10 a.m., later taking on host Alabama at 4 p.m. On Saturday, the Wolfpack will play Western Kentucky at 9:30 a.m., before battling Winthrop at 11:15 a.m. NC State will wrap up its stay at the tournament on Sunday, with its game times being determined based upon its success in the previously scheduled games.

Ranked No. 5 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25, the SEC’s Alabama Crimson Tide enter the weekend with an unblemished 10-0 record, owning two spring tournament championships. The Pack is 3-4 all-time against SEC squads.
The Indiana State Sycamores, a member of the Missouri Valley Conference, arrive at the tournament with a 4-1 record, while the Sun Belt’s Western Kentucky Hilltoppers come in at 4-7 on a five-game losing skid. The Winthrop Eagles, out of the Big South, are 3-3.
The red and white will arrive in Tuscaloosa riding a four-game win streak and owning a 7-2 record on the young season.
When the Wolfpack takes on Indiana State and Alabama on Friday in Tuscaloosa, it will mark the Pack’s first ever meeting on the diamond with those programs. The red and white is 1-0 all-time against Winthrop with a 4-2 win on March 12, 2004. Western Kentucky downed the Pack 4-2 in the only previous meeting between the two schools on March 19, 2005.
