RALEIGH, N.C. Construction of the Curtis & Jacqueline Dail Softball Stadium has been completed, and the keys have been handed over to head coach Lisa Navas. Now it’s time to celebrate, and what better way to commemorate the occasion than by including the players that laid the foundation of the program.
Tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 9, the Wolfpack softball program will hold its first-ever alumni event, popping the cork on the new field and celebrating its short but storied history. Nearly all graduates of the program will be in attendance. Festivities will begin at 7 p.m.
In four years of existence, the Pack has enjoyed a wealth of success. NC State won both the 2006 ACC regular season and tournament championships, and has made the NCAA Tournament field twice, including a No. 15 overall and No. 1 regional seed last year. State hurlers have tossed 10 no-hitters and the team has picked up 165 wins.
“We’re excited to have the kids back for the first event in the new stadium,” said Navas.
Occupancy on the brand-new facility was granted yesterday, Wednesday, Nov. 7, and Navas couldn’t be more proud of the new stadium that her program now calls home.
“I’m ecstatic, not only for the school and the program, but for the kids as well,” said Navas. “It’s been a long time coming.”
The Pack will begin its 2008 regular season on Feb. 8, taking on Kansas at the UCF Softball Tournament in Orlando, Fla. The squad will also compete at four other challenging tournaments; the FAU “Strike-Out” Cancer Tournament in Boca Raton, Fla., the College of Charleston Tournament in Charleston, S.C., the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Ga., and the USF Under Armour Invitational in Clearwater, Fla.
Feb. 27 is certain to be one of the most anticipated days in the history of the Wolfpack softball program. At 3 p.m., State will begin its first of two games against UNC Greensboro, marking the inaugural game at the Curtis & Jacqueline Dail Softball Stadium on the NC State campus.
