FREEPORT, Bahamas - NC State's Khadijah Whittington had another monster game with 25 points, 11 rebounds and five steals in a 77-51 dismantling of Washington State in the first day of the Junkanoo Jam on the Grand Bahama Island.
The Wolfpack (5-1) will play Eastern Michigan tomorrow in the championship game of the Lucaya Division at 3:20 pm.
Shayla Fields added 12 points and five assists, while Sharnise Beal came off the bench to toss in 11 points. Lucy Ellison led all players with 13 rebounds as she led the Pack to a 49-31 rebound advantage.
Salena Dickerson led Washington State (1-3) with 15 points, while Kaite Caldenwood had 10.
NC State led 46-21 at halftime and cruised to its second straight win over a team from the Pac 10. Before boarding a plane earlier Wednesday morning for the Bahamas, the Pack took down Arizona, 70-44, at Reynolds Coliseum on Tuesday.
The Pack closed the first half on a 16-1 run over the final 4:57 to break the game wide open.
After WSU got a bucket from Katie Appleton, Whittington took over, draining five shots in the first five minutes of the second half to give the Pack a 63-28 advantage. The lead would swell to 37 points, 65-28, after two from the stripe by Whittington with 13:24 to play.
NC State jumped out quickly from the get go. An 11-2 spurt put the red and white up 17-4 at the 13:06 mark. The Cougars, under the direction of first-year head coach June Dougherty, never got any closer than eight points.
Whittington has notched a double-double in all six games this season.
