M. Tennis In Action at William & Mary Invite

The NC State men’s tennis team competed during the first round of tennis action at the William & Mary Invitational in Williamsburg, Va. Christian Welte, Eric Turner, Derek Stephens and Daniel Schinke all competed for the Wolfpack.
Stephens faired well in his two matches, winning the first set in both of the bouts. In his first match of the day against Andy Orban of Maryland, Stephens won the first set 6-1 before losing the second, 6-2. The players played a 10-point tiebreak for the third set, with Stephens falling 10-5.
Stephens’ second match was much like the first. After taking the first set, 6-4, off of Andrew Roth of Notre Dame, Stephens lost 6-3 in the second set. The 10-point tiebreak was as close as they come, with Stephens falling 12-10.
Welte lost in the same singles flight, losing to Amit Inbar of Maryland and No. 30 Sheeva Parbhu of Notre Dame in his second match.
The Welte/Stephens duo also fell in their lone doubles match of the day, 8-5, to Orban and Fetbroyt of Maryland.
Turner lost to David Kwon of Maryland in the first round in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. In his second match, Turner was defeated by Stephen Havens of Notre Dame, 6-0, 7-5.
Schinke fell in both of his matches in the second singles flight. He lost to Nickolai Nielsen of Maryland, 6-4, 6-4, before David Anderson of Notre Dame defeated Schinke as well, 6-1, 6-1.
In the second doubles flight, Schinke and Turner teamed up and fell in their only match, 8-2, to Inbar/Neilsen of Maryland.
