BURLINGTON, Vt. Gloria Brown and Khadijah Whittington each scored 10 points to lead No. 24 NC State to a 65-31 victory over Brown in Sunday’s consolation game of the TD Banknorth Classic.
Whittington posted her fourth straight double-double with 10 rebounds to go with her 10 points. She now stands one point shy of becoming the 24th member of the 1,000 point club at NC State.
Shayla Fields added nine points, while Nikitta Gartrell and Sharnise Beal each tossed in eight points for the Wolfpack.
Shae Fitzpatrick led Brown (0-4) with seven points and five rebounds.
NC State (3-1) led throughout and saw its advantage balloon to as many as 35 points, 63-28, with 1:58 left in the game. The Wolfpack led by double digits the final 30 minutes of play.
The active Wolfpack defense forced Brown into 21 first-half turnovers and also held them without a field goal for nearly 10 minutes of the opening first half, which allowed NC State to open up a 23-5 lead with 7:25 left until halftime.
NC State cruised into intermission up 31-12 as both Brown and Beal each had six points in the opening 20 minutes of play.
The Pack shot 50.0 percent (12-of-24) from the floor, while the Bears only managed three made buckets in the first half.
NC State returns home to take on Arizona on Tuesday night at 7 pm. The Wildcats earned a 68-66 overtime win over the Wolfpack last November in Tucson.
