M. Tennis Finishes Stay at ITA Mideast Regionals

NC State finished its run at the ITA Mideast Regional Championships on Saturday as its final two singles players and lone doubles team fell. Nick Cavaday and Jay Weinacker, both seeded players, lost to a pair of seeded individuals who advanced to the quarterfinals. Derek Stephens and Christian Welte teamed up in doubles and made it to the quarterfinals of the main draw.
Weinacker fell to Martin Sayer of Radford, the tournament's No. 2 seed, in three tough sets. Weinacker won the opening frame with a 7-5 score in the set to take an early lead. Sayer would then rebound to take the final two sets, 6-2, 7-5.
Stephens and Welte lost 8-3 to Steven Forman and Cory Parr of Wake Forest after beating teams from James Madison, Maryland and Virginia.
Cavaday lost to Stefan Hardy of North Carolina, 6-4, 7-5. Cavaday was the No. 5 seed while Hardy was the No. 9 seed in the regional draw.
The Wolfpack will send players to the University of Alabama Tournament Friday, Oct. 26 to Sunday, Oct. 28 in its next action on the courts.
