M. Tennis in Action at ITA Mideast Regional Championships

Christian Welte and Derek Stephens won their matches Thursday morning in the opening round of the ITA Mideast Regional Championships Main Draw. The duo will join Nick Cavaday and Jay Weinacker, both seeded players in the main draw, in the round of 64 as play continues Friday in Charlottesville, Va.

Welte took down the talented Predrag Burmazovic of ETSU after dropping the opening set, 6-2. Welte regrouped and won the final two sets, 6-4, 6-3 and will face Houston Barrick of Virginia on Friday.

Stephens defeated Andrew Stubbs of Wofford in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. He will now face Scott Blackmon of Georgia Tech in the next round.

Rob Lowe and Frideric Prandecki are competing in the qualifying doubles draw against Michael Anders and Jeff Archer of Charlotte this afternoon.

Cavaday/Weinacker and Welte/Stephens will also compete this afternoon in the main doubles draw.
