RALEIGH, N.C. Fourth-ranked Virginia back up its national ranking with a 3-0 victory over NC State in Atlantic Coast Conference women's soccer on Thursday at Method Road.
Shannon Foley had a hand in all three Virginia (9-1-3, 3-0-2) goals. She assisted on the two first half goals and scored her seventh marker of the year in the second half.
Foley’s throw in setup Sarah Senty’s second tally of the season in the 7th minute. Senty gathered the toss and cut towards the net and buried a shot into the far-right lower corner from just inside 10 yards.
At the 22:29 mark, Foley lofted a pass towards net that Kelly Quinn got a head on for a 2-0 advantage.
NC State’s Lindsay Vera almost cut the deficit in half in the 34th minute with a shot that forced Virginia keeper Chantel Jordan into her first save of the afternoon.
After the intermission, Vera again penetrated the Cavalier defense in the 53rd minute. The Houston, Texas native made a couple nice moves, cut to her left and ripped a shot that again forced Jordan into a save situation.
The visitors put the game away in the 77th minute when Foley collected a pass from Becky Sauerbrunn and deposited her shot into the right side of the net for a 3-0 advantage.
Sidney Little came up with two saves for the Wolfpack, while Jones also came up with three saves in 90 minutes for Virginia.
