Raleigh, N.C. - Three members of the NC State men's tennis team are ranked in the top-25 of the Mideast Region in the recently released Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings. Junior Nick Cavaday (12th), senior William Noblitt (16th) and sophomore Jay Weinacker (24th) are included in the singles poll, while Cavaday and Noblitt are ranked 12th in doubles.
"These rankings are really a testament to the amount of hard work and dedication that this group has put in since day one," said head coach Jon Choboy. "Not only are all three of these guys special players, but they are special individuals as well. Cavaday, Noblitt and Weinacker are great representatives of NC State and what we are all about."
Cavaday, who will hold the number one spot in singles play, enters the 2007 season ranked 39th nationally, while Noblitt returns for his final tour of duty after being selected First Team All-ACC for No. 3 singles in 2006. After breaking the Wolfpack record for singles victories in a season with 23 last year, Weinacker is looking to build on his early career success.
NC State's challenging spring schedule includes 10 matches against 2006 NCAA Tournament squads. When competition begins in January the Wolfpack will host its first 12 bouts within the friendly confines of the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center on the NC State campus. The Pack will kick off the action on Saturday, Jan. 20, with contests against High Point, Gardner-Webb and the Citadel.
