NC State Dominates at Polo Opening Round

Tulsa, Okla. – Andre Iriarte and Jay Weinacker of the NC State men’s tennis teams both won two matches each in singles play on Saturday, Sept. 30, at the first day of competition at the 2006 Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Championships qualifying rounds in Tulsa, Okla. With wins under their belts, both players will compete tomorrow, Sunday, Oct. 2, for a qualification spot in the tournament.
Weinacker topped Ben Reynauld of Butler, 7-6(2), 3-6, 6-2, in a hard-fought first round battle, while Iriarte cruised past Texas-Arlington’s Gonzalo Bienzobas, 6-4, 6-3. In the second round of play, Weinacker worked over Bart van Monsjou from Iowa, 7-5, 6-2, as Iriarte trumped Oral Roberts Tyrone Hill, 6-1, 6-4
Weinacker and Iriarte will return to the courts tomorrow, Sunday, Oct. 2. Each will compete in 11 a.m. matches will qualification spots on the line. Weincaker will face Derek Stephens of Tennessee, while Iriarte takes on Henrique Cancado of Old Dominion.
