NC State softball is in its third season of competition and the accolades keep rolling in. The team is ranked No. 24 by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) for the first time in school history. The Wolfpack (44-18, 14-6 ACC) swept then No. 20 North Carolina - at the time the first place team in the league - to claim the ACC regular season title. Head coach Lisa Navas has her softball team where she wants it heading into postseason play.
"It is great to have another team first and being ranked for the first time is a good feeling," Navas said. "Our strong finish finally pushed us into the rankings after being just out of the top-25 for a good part of the year. It is a sign of respect from the other coaches that vote, so we are being recognized by peers. This is great for the kids on this team, they have worked so hard and we will continue to improve as we look to advance in the postseason."
The softball team returns to action May 11-14 in Chapel Hill, N.C. for the ACC Softball Championships.
NOTES: The NCAA Regional selection show is on Sunday, May 14 between 3 and 4 p.m. Eastern time ... Coach Navas will make an appearance at the Wolfpack Club Caravan on Tuesday, May 9 on the NC State campus.
