Wolfpack Softball Travels to Coastal Carolina for Doubleheader

NC State (32-13) will travel to Conway, S.C. to take on Coastal Carolina in a non-conference matchup Thursday, April 6. Coastal Carolina (23-18) is 10-7 at home this season while NC State posts a 3-1 record on the road. Shaina Ervin (11-2, 1.07 ERA) leads the way in the circle for the Wolfpack and Heather Gelbard (.306 BA, 44 hits) has been consistent at the plate in 2006. Ervin was named ACC Player of the Week after winning three games, two against Maryland, and registering two shutouts. She has won her last eight decisions and is 11-2 on the season, her best start in three years. She is just one win away from matching her career-high of 12 wins from last season. Her overall ERA of 1.07 ranks third in the conference and her ERA against ACC teams is a staggering 0.54, tops in the conference.
Gelbard is leading the team in batting average (.306) and hits (44), and has 11 extra base hits, second most on the team. Her six home runs are second on the squad.
Jen Chamberlin leads the team with seven home runs, and she ranks seventh all-time among ACC players with 30 dingers.
Miranda Ervin has 29 RBIs on the season and is slugging a team-best .517.
Shanna Smith has been an invaluable weapon with her bat, glove and speed. She is second on the team in batting average (.277) and leads the team with 13 extra-base hits, including seven doubles and three triples, both tops on the team. She is also 20-of-24 in stolen bases, setting single season and career records for steals.
