HOOPS FOR HOPE - THE HOPE CONTINUES!

Raleigh, NC -- A little more than one month ago, on February 19th, Reynolds Coliseum was as a beehive of activity and the dominant color of the day was pink. The event was Hoops for Hope and the cause was to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer. More than $31,000 was raised for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, NC Triangle Affiliate, from Hoops for Hope initiatives and the largest crowd of the 2006 NC State women's basketball season was in attendance.
The event was so successful that many, including NC State head women's basketball Coach Kay Yow, asked if Hoops for Hope could become an annual event. According to Yow, "I have received numerous e-mails and letters from people who were uplifted and were able to celebrate their victories (both small and large) against this disease. Others were encouraged to continue their fight and to hang tough! We shared, we celebrated, and we pulled together all while raising funds in hope for a cure. Hopefully, the second year will be bigger and better in every way!"
The event was more than a fundraiser, 60 women who have battled breast cancer were recognized at half-time and were welcomed with a standing ovation and roar of cheers. Anyone who has battled breast cancer or has a loved one or friend battle breast cancer was touched by this event. Pink t-shirts were given away as well as pink tote bags, pinks shoelaces, pink bracelets and pink pom poms- all free gifts for fans from the more than 15 corporate sponsors who made the event possible
Hoops for Hope was a first for Wolfpack Sports Marketing, the sales and marketing organization for NC State Athletics, but the results were amazing. "Our sponsors were thrilled to be part of this event. They are proud to be associated with not only NC State and Coach Yow, but also to be able to help support the Komen Foundation." says Brenda Steen, program director.
Time Warner Cable, the title sponsor of Hoops for Hope, was so pleased with the event that they have agreed to be title sponsor for two more years.
