The event is also "Hoops for Hope", a breast cancer awareness event, in which five dollars from each ticket sold will be donated to the Triangle Area Susan G. Komen Foundation. It was head coach Kay Yow's goal to raise over $25,000 at this event with a sellout crowd in Reynolds Coliseum. In recent years, the highest attendance in Reynolds Coliseum had been 9,517 against North Carolina on Feb. 3, 2000. The all-time highest attendance record is 11,520 against Virginia on Jan. 12, 1991. NC State in the ACC
With the Atlantic Coast Conference owning the nation's top RPI, NC State can say it has helped significantly. The Wolfpack is one of four ACC schools in the Top 10 RPI (Duke-4th, UNC-5th, Maryland-7th, NC State-10th). NC State's strength of schedule leads all ACC schools and is ranked first in the nation. NC State also finished its non-conference slate with a 10-3 record, with two of those losses coming to ranked teams (No. 6 Rutgers and No. 22 Utah). That winning percentage of 76.9 improved the ACC's overall non-conference winning percentage to 82.3 percent on the year. The Pack is 6-6 against ACC opponents this season, having lost to then No. 4 North Carolina and again as the No. 1 ranked team, then No. 2 Duke, at Wake Forest, No. 23 Boston College at home and at Florida State. NC State is currently sixth in the ACC standings.
About No. 4 Maryland (23-3, 10-2 ACC)
Maryland is coming off a convincing 86-59 win at home against No. 18 Boston College on Thursday, Feb. 16. The Terrapins saw a eight game winning streak stopped with a loss at No. 2 Duke on Feb. 13. In fact, only Duke has been able to stop the Terps in conference play. Maryland lost both games to the Blue Devils. The Terrapins have played in four overtime games this season, including three in ACC play. All three of those were on the road (At Virginia, At Wake Forest and At No. 1 North Carolina), but all three ended with Maryland victories. Sophomore Crystal Langhorne, last season's ACC Rookie of the Year, is leading the Terps in scoring and rebounding with averages of 16.6 ppg and 8.8 rpg. In conference games only her numbers are up slightly with 18.2 ppg and 8.8 rpg. She also leads the ACC in field goal percentage, hitting 66.4 percent of her field goal attempts. As a team, Maryland leads the ACC in free throw percentage (75.3), three-point field goal percentage (42.9), rebounding offense (45.2), rebounding margin (+13.6), and defensive rebounds (30.3).
