NC State continues home stand
The Wolfpack Women continue through its six-game home stand on Sunday afternoon against East Carolina out of Conference USA. The game is scheduled for a 2 pm start at Reynolds Coliseum.
23 Straight Non-Conference Wins at Reynolds
NC State extended its non-conference winning streak at Reynolds Coliseum to 23 games with a 65-54 win over Winthrop on December 4. The Pack has now gone the last three plus seasons without a non-conference loss at Reynolds.
The last setback was a 69-57 loss to Brigham Young on December 14, 2002.
Record-long home stand
NC State is in the midst of its longest home stand in school history. Never in the 33-year history of the program had the Wolfpack played six consecutive games at home. The longest stretch was five games, that took place on four occasions (1979-80, 1984-85, 1986-87 and 1990-91).
All-Time Home Record
NC State is 6-0 on its home floor this year, 5-0 at Reynolds Coliseum. Overall, the Pack owns a staggering 329-87 all-time record in home games. The Wolfpack has never had a losing mark at home in now its 33rd season of basketball. There has been three seasons where the club wound up with a .500 record, most recently in 2002-03 (7-7).
What Can Brown Do for the Wolfpack?
NC State senior Keisha Brown has averaged 10.2 points off the bench the last five games, which includes three double-figure scoring games. She scored 14 points against Temple as she knocked down four 3-pointers, three in the second half. Brown also had 11 points against South Carolina, while she began this recent five-game stretch with a season-high 15 points and seven rebounds at Arizona on November 24.
She is shooting .571 (8-for-14) percent from 3-point range in the last five games.
Scoring by Committee
NC State has had four different players lead the team in scoring. Here is a breakdown of who has led the Pack and how many times.
Khadijah Whittington 3
Shayla Fields 3
Keisha Brown 2
Nikitta Gartrell 1
Fields of Dreams
To say that sophomore guard Shayla Fields is leading NC State in scoring is a surprise would be an understatement. It's actually almost amazing considering how little she played last year as a freshman.
Fields set a new career-high with 18 points in the 65-54 win over Winthrop on December 4. Fields, who is averaging 11.0 points per game, has set career highs in every statistical category this year. The Salisbury, N.C. native entered the year having scored only three points last year.
She stands sixth in the ACC by connecting on 44.8 percent (13-of-29) of her 3-point attempts.
Solid Team Defense
NC State ranks fourth in the ACC by allowing an average of only 52.6 points per game. No team has scored more than 68 points and three team's have scored less than 48 points.
In addition, the 35 points allowed against Iona on November 12 was the fewest given up by NC State since a 76-29 win over North Carolina A&T back on December 18, 2004.
KD now second in the ACC in Rebounding
Junior forward Khadijah Whittington is second in the ACC in rebounds with 11.0 per game, but is still first with 7.67 defensive rebounds per game.
The Roanoke, Va native has compiled six double-digit rebound totals, three double-doubles and is one of only two players in the conference, with Corinne Groves of Wake Forest being the other, to average a double-double for the year.
Whittington one rebound away from 500
Whittington is one rebound shy of 500 for her career after hauling in 99 in only nine games this year.
Wolfpack Bench Scoring
NC State is receiving 22 points a game from its bench this year, compared to only nine points for its opponents. The Pack completely dominated that stat against Winthrop as the Wolfpack reserves held a 26-0 advantage over its counterpart. Over the last three games, NC State has outscored its opponents second string by a 78-12 margin.
The bench has scored at least 20 points in seven of nine games to date.
