The Wolfpack Women finish up its six-game home stand on Friday afternoon against Lehigh out of the Patriot League. The game is scheduled for a 1 pm start at Reynolds Coliseum.
25 Straight Non-Conference Wins at Reynolds
NC State extended its non-conference winning streak at Reynolds Coliseum to 25 games with a 78-57 win over Saint Joseph's on December 20. The Pack has now gone the last three plus seasons without a non-conference loss at Reynolds. The last setback was a 69-57 loss to Brigham Young on December 14, 2002.
Record-long home stand
NC State is in the midst of its longest home stand in school history. Never in the 33-year history of the program had the Wolfpack played six consecutive games at home. The longest stretch was five games, that took place on four occasions (1979-80, 1984-85, 1986-87 and 1990-91).
Home Wins to Begin Season
NC State has opened the year with seven straight wins at Reynolds Coliseum. That ties for the fourth best stretch to open the season at home. The school record is 16 games to begin the 1981-82 campaign.
All-Time Home Record
NC State is 8-0 on its home floor this year, 7-0 at Reynolds Coliseum. Overall, the Pack owns a staggering 331-87 all-time record in home games. The Wolfpack has never had a losing mark at home in now its 33rd season of basketball. There has been three seasons where the club wound up with a .500 record, most recently in 2002-03 (7-7).
A Key to Sucess
NC State senior Ashley Key has averaged 13.7 points over the last three games, which includes three double-figure scoring games. She scored 10 points against Winthrop, 17 against East Carolina and 14 against Saint Joseph's. She is shooting .571 (16-for-28) from the field over the last three games, with 3.3 assists and 2.0 rebounds per game.
Fields of Dreams
To say that sophomore guard Shayla Fields is leading NC State in scoring is a surprise would be an understatement. It's actually almost amazing considering how little she played last year as a freshman. Fields set a new career-high with 18 points in the 65-54 win over Winthrop on December 4. Fields, who is averaging 11.3 points per game, has set career highs in every statistical category this year. The Salisbury, N.C. native entered the year having scored only three points last year.
Solid Team Defense
NC State ranks fourth in the ACC by allowing an average of only 51.6 points per game. The club is also eighth nationally in team scoring defense according to the latest NCAA Rankings. No team has scored more than 68 points and three team's have scored less than 41 points. In addition, the 35 points allowed against Iona on November 12 was the fewest given up by NC State since a 76-29 win over North Carolina A&T back on December 18, 2004.
KD Among the National Leaders in Rebounding
Junior forward Khadijah Whittington is ranked 13th nationally in rebounding according to the last NCAA Rankings.
She is also second in the ACC in rebounds with 10.4 per game and is also second with 7.09 defensive rebounds per game. The Roanoke, Va native has compiled six double-digit rebound totals and three double-doubles.
Knocking down the Freebies
Over the last three games, NC State is shooting 87.2 percent (34-of-39) from the free throw line. That is well above the 70.8 percent the club is converting for the season.
Wolfpack Bench Scoring
NC State is receiving 23 points a game from its bench this year, compared to only nine points for its opponents. The Pack totaled a season-high 31 points from its reserves against Saint Joseph's on December 20. Against Winthrop. the Wolfpack bench held a 26-0 advantage over its counterpart. Over the last five games, NC State has outscored its opponents second string by a 133-50 margin. The bench has scored at least 20 points in nine of 11 games to date.
Clamping down on Defense
NC State has done a tremendous job of limiting its seven opponents scoring abilities at Reynolds Coliseum this year. The Pack's opponents have combined to average a mere 47.0 points a game. No team has scored more than 57 points (Temple and Saint Joseph's). Furthermore, Iona and East Carolina were held to 34 and 38 points respectively.
When an opponent scores less than 60 points...
NC State owns a perfect 8-0 record this year. The Pack has won 16 straight games when its opponent scores less than 60 points. The last setback was a 54-52 loss at Saint Joseph's on November 20, 2005.
100 Games played at NC State
Senior Ashley Key played put her NC State jersey on for the 100th time against East Carolina on December 10. Classmate Marquetta Dickens also appeared in her 100th game with the Wolfpack against Saint Joseph's on December 20.
Chanita Jordan makes Collegiate Debut
After missing the first 10 games of th year, freshman Chanita Jordan made her debut against Saint Joseph's on December 20. She was productive with four points, three rebounds and one assist in seven minutes off the bench. All 14 players have now seen the court for the Wolfpack.
