Fields of Dreams
To say that sophomore guard Shayla Fields leads the team in scoring through five games is a surprise would be an understatement. It's actually almost amazing considering how little she played last year as a freshman.
Fields tied her career and season-high with 17 points last time out in a 68-66 overtime loss at Arizona on Friday. Fields, who is averaging 11.4 points per game, has set career highs in every statistical category this year. The Salisbury, N.C. native entered the year having scored only three points last year. She has tossed in 57 points all ready this year. She also tops the ACC by connecting on 56.3 percent (9-of-16) of her 3-point attempts.
Shooting the 3
NC State was deadly from behind the arc at Arizona on Friday night, canning a season-high 10 3-pointers in 19 attempts. It marked the most trey's made by the Pack in its last 21 games, dating back to January 13, 2005 when NC State hit on 10 3's against Virginia.
The Wolfpack only had 14 3-pointers in its previous four games of the 2006-07 season. Shayla Fields and Keisha Brown led the way by combining to shoot 7-of-9 from beyond the arc.
Glance relies on experienced players in first game as head coach
Associate Head coach Stephanie Glance took over as the interim head coach for the Wolfpack Women on Friday at Arizona. She relied heavily on her more experienced players as five players posted a season-high minute total and three set career highs. Also, the four freshmen that saw time only accounted for 44 of the 225 minutes played, with Nikitta Gartrell logging 25.
Season High Minutes at Arizona
Khadijah Whittington - 41*

Overtime Oddity
The last two overtime games that NC State has played in have come with head coach Kay Yow not on the bench. On Friday, the Pack played Arizona and 40 minutes was not enough as the Wildcats defending their home court with a 68-66 win.
The other game occurred when coach Yow took another leave of absence during the 2004-05 season. On January 13, 2005, the Pack picked up a 76-75 win over No. 23 Virginia Tech. A span off 50 games.
KD leads ACC in Rebounding
Junior forward Khadijah Whittington currently leads the ACC in rebounds with 11.0 per game and defensive rebounds with 7.6 per game.
The Roanoke, Va native has compiled three double-digit rebound totals in the five games played to date.
