RALEIGH, N.C. The NC State women’s basketball team is receiving votes in the Preseason USA Today/ESPN Women’s Coaches’ Poll released on Wednesday.
The Wolfpack garnered 12 votes, which is the 14th most among schools outside the top-25. The Pack returns three starters and eight letterwinners from last season’s club that posted a 19-12 record and made the program’s 19th trip to the NCAA Tournament in the past 25 years.
NC State routinely plays one of the more difficult schedules in the country and this year is certainly no different. Fellow Atlantic Coast Conference members Maryland and North Carolina are ranked 1-2 respectively, while Duke enters in the poll at No. 6.
The Wolfpack, which was selected fourth in the preseason ACC poll, begins the season by hosting High Point in the WNIT on November 9 at Reynolds Coliseum. Possible opponents in the tournament include, No. 4 Stanford, No. 13 Purdue, No. 18 Baylor and No. 24 BYU. In addition, possible second-round opponent Saint John’s received 20 votes after coming off a 22-8 record last season.
Also on the slate for the Pack that received votes were Boston College (83 votes), Temple (37), Florida State (8), South Carolina (6) and Virginia Tech (4).
NC State hosts its only exhibition of the year tonight against Premier Players. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm at Reynolds Coliseum.
