Women's Tennis Dominant at US Open Invitational

Three Wolfpack singles players fought into the finals of their singles draws as NC State has three players in the four finals at the US Open Women’s College Tennis Invitational. The tournament is held at the National Tennis Center in New York, site of the Grand Slam tournament each year for the top professionals in the world. Freshmen Berkley Brock and Kristin Bleakley made it to the finals of the “B” and “D” flights, respectively, and sophomore Neils Barringer advanced to the finals of the “C” flight. Another freshman, Daria Petrovic, made it to the quarterfinals of the “A” flight before falling.
In addition, the team of Alejandra Guerra and Daria Petrovic rolled to the finals of the doubles “A” flight.
Brock has continued her impressive play this fall, as she advances to Monday’s final Kristen Cargill of Duke. She currently holds a 9-1 record this fall after losing her first match of the season and advanced to the finals with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Jessie Rhea of Yale.
Bleakley has had a strong fall as well, and she’ll play Austin Hansen of Virginia in the finals of the “D” flight, where Bleakley is the No. 1 seed. She advanced to the finals with a 4-6, 7-6 (6), 10-8 win in her semifinal.
Barringer won a marathon match in the “C” flight in three sets after losing 7-5 in the opening frame. She pulled out the second set 6-4 then held off her opponent with an impressive 10-4 third set win to make it to the finals.
