Wolfpack Women selected fourth in ACC Preseason Poll

GREENSBORO, N.C. NC State was selected to finish fourth in the 2006-07 Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Basketball season, as determined by a vote of the media, sports information directors and head coaches.

Maryland, the recipient of 25 of the 38 first-place votes, was selected as the top preseason pick. Terrapin head coach Brenda Frese boasts an experience squad as Maryland returns 98 percent of its scoring and 95 percent of its rebounding from last year’s national championship team.

North Carolina received 13 first-place votes to place second, followed by Duke, the Wolfpack Women in fourth and Florida State rounded out the top-five selections.

NC State finished last season 19-12, fifth overall in the conference, and made its 19^th trip to the NCAA Tournament. Head coach Kay Yow enters her 32^nd year with the Pack and is only seven wins shy of 700 for her career.

Reigning Player of the Year Ivory Latta of North Carolina headlines the 2006-07 Preseason All-ACC Team as the senior guard was named this year’s Preseason Player of the Year. Joining Latta on the preseason squad is teammate Erlana Larkins, Crystal Langhorne and Marissa Coleman of Maryland, and 2005-06 Defensive Player of the Year Lindsey Harding of Duke.

Virginia newcomer Monica Wright, a freshman from Woodbridge, Va., was named Preseason ACC Rookie of the Year.
