Noblitt Wins Twice at ITA Mideast Regional

Chapel Hill, N.C. – William Noblitt collected two singles decisions on Friday, Oct. 20, at the 2006 ITA Mideast Regional Indoor Championships in Chapel Hill, N.C. One of Noblitt’s victories came against a ranked ACC-foe. Nick Cavaday grabbed a solo victory of his own, while Jay Weinacker also competed. Cavaday and Noblitt fell in doubles competition to a ranked pair.
After receiving a first round bye, Noblitt stormed into the field, blowing past Coastal Carolina’s Simon Taylor, 6-0, 6-2, in the round of 64. Things got a little bit tougher in the round of 32, as Noblitt won the front and back frames to take down ACC-foe Andrew Hamar of Wake Forest, 6-3, 0-6, 6-4. Hamar is currently ranked No. 76 nationally in singles play in the Fila Collegiate Tennis Rankings.
Cavaday, who received a bye in the first round of play, flat-out dominated Bo Ladyman of Furman in the round of 64, 6-0, 6-0. Cavaday then lost in the round of 32 to Duke’s Joey Atats, 6-3, 6-4. Weinacker fell in the round of 64 to Wake Forest’s Cory Parr after taking the first set, 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-4.
In doubles play, Cavaday and Noblitt lost to No. 53 Alex Cojanu and Colin O’Brien of William & Mary, 8-5, in the round of 16.
Noblitt will take on Duke’s Peter Rodrigues tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 21, at 10 a.m. in the round of 16.
