Quick Hits
It's been two years since NC State has seen the confines of Cameron Indoor. And it has been seven years since the Wolfpack has earned a win at the hands of the Blue Devils of Duke University. The last win in Durham was on Feb. 2, 1996 and since then NC State has lost seven straight at Cameron. NC State has a lot of credit behind its 11-5 record this season. The Wolfpack is 7-3 in its last 10 games with two of those losses coming against ranked opponents in No. 22 Utah and No. 4 North Carolina. The Pack also is 9-3 against non-conference opponents, with one remaining to play on Sunday, Jan. 22 at home against the 10-3 Dartmouth Big Green. NC state is 8-5 against teams in the Top 100 RPI, which means all five of its losses have been to top-notch programs this season and three of those losses were to ranked teams, including two in the top 10 (No. 6 Rutgers, No. 22 Utah, No. 4 North Carolina). After traveling to Duke on Thursday, the Pack will be home for three games to close out the month of January.
Additional Notes
Thursday's game at Duke will mark the 63rd game all-time an 29th in Durham between the neighborhood schools. The Pack will look to stifle Duke's longest winning streak over NC State since the first meeting back on Feb. 20, 1975. Over the last six games against the Blue Devils, Duke has been ranked 2nd (Thursday's game), 1st, 3rd, 2nd, 5th and 5th.
About the Wolfpack
NC State recently ended a seven-game home winning streak with its loss to No. 4 North Carolina on Sunday, but the Wolfpack will have a chance to get the ball rolling again when hosts three home contests this upcoming week, beginning with Dartmouth on Sunday, Jan. 22, which is also Coach Yow's 1000th career game. Following its final non-conference game of the season, NC State will host ACC foes Miami on Jan. 26 and No. 21 Boston College for the first time on Jan. 30. The Pack will then take on the Tar Heels for the second time this season on Feb. 2, which is just five games away. The Pack has three players averaging double figures in ACC competition, led by senior Tiffany Stansbury's 12.0 ppg and 7.8 rpg. Senior Billie McDowell and junior Ashley Key are both adding 11.5 ppg with Key leading as the assist-maker with her 3.5 apg. Freshman Khadijah Whittington is posting up for 10.3 ppg for all games and leads overall in rebounds per game with 8.1 rpg. Statistically, NC State is ranked 17th in the nation for blocks per game (5.4) and 20th for assists per game (17.2). Stansbury is 27th in the nation for her field goal percentage of 56.4 percent.
