RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Erlana Larkins had 15 points and 11 rebounds Sunday to lead fourth-ranked North Carolina past No. 25 North Carolina State 65-53, giving coach Sylvia Hatchell her 700th career victory.
Camille Little added 12 points and 14 rebounds for the Tar Heels (16-0, 3-0 Atlantic Coast Conference), who have won nine of the last 10 in the series.
Billie McDowell had 14 points to lead the Wolfpack (11-5, 2-2), which committed far too many turnovers and struggled against the Tar Heels' athleticism and pressure defense.
Hatchell improved to 700-266 in her 31 seasons, including 20 years at North Carolina. She became just the fifth Division I coach to reach 700 wins, joining Tennessee's Pat Summitt, Texas' Jody Conradt, Rutgers' C. Vivian Stringer and LSU's Sue Gunter.
The Tar Heels came in winning games by an average margin of 34 points, and appeared to be on their way to another easy win after a 15-0 run late in the first half gave them a 17-point lead. They led throughout the second half, but had trouble putting the game away.
Still, the Wolfpack got no closer than six points after the break.
N.C. State shot 36 percent, went 8-for-15 from the free-throw line and committed 26 turnovers. The Wolfpack couldn't overcome the foul trouble of top players Tiffany Stansbury and Khadijah Whittington. Stansbury managed 13 points but played just 23 minutes, while Whittington scored just five.
North Carolina shot just 32 percent and committed 21 turnovers, but went 17-for-24 at the line. The Tar Heels also took a 49-43 rebounding edge, pulling down 17 offensive rebounds that led to 16 second-chance points.
