Ohio Wrestlers Take Down NC State 25-13

ATHENS, Ohio - With pins by Larry Reichard at 197 pounds and Ryan Knapp at 174, Ohio University defeated NC State 25-13 in a non-conference college wrestling match Saturday evening in the Ohio University Convocation Center. Ohio improved to 5-4 with the victory, while NC State, which lost on Friday to Maryland, fell to 6-3.
Brian Cesear gave the Bobcats an early 4-0 lead with an 11-2 major decision over Jeremy Colbert at 184 pounds. Ohio jumped out to a 10-0 lead after Reichard pinned the Wolfpack's Josh Collins in the next match. Reichard dominated the contest and was leading 13-0 when the pin occurred with 30 seconds remaining in the second period.
At heavyweight, a two-point reversal by Jainor Palma late in the second period proved to be the contest's only points as Palma defeated Marcus Adelman 2-0. Ohio answered back, however, with three straight wins. Caleb Metcalf managed an escape at the very beginning of the third period to squeak out a 1-0 decision over Jeremy Hartrum to start the Ohio run. Terry Jackson followed with a 4-0 shutout of Garrett Cummings.
Albert Madsen then won a 6-2 decision over Jalil Dozier at 141. Madsen overcame a 2-0 lead by Dozier with a pair of escapes and two takedowns.
With the Bobcats leading 19-3 with just four matches left, the Wolfpack began to close the gap, starting with a 6-1 decision by freshman Joe Caramanica over Aaron Gomoll at 149. Bryant Reams then picked up a pair of late takedowns to hand Mike Grandominico a 9-7 loss. The Pack closed the gap to just six points with a 10-2 major decision by Obie Simpson over Kent Smith at 165 pounds. Simpson's takedown on the edge of the mat with just one second remaining turned a decision for Simpson into a major decision.
Trailing 19-13 heading into the last match of the night, NC State needed a pin from Rick Brownlee at 174, but got the opposite when Ryan Knapp pinned Brownlee 17 seconds into the second period. The Wolfpack will return to action on Tuesday at Duke. The match will begin at 7 p.m.
