RALEIGH, N.C. - On Tuesday, August 9, head coach Jon Choboy announced the 2006 spring schedule for the Wolfpack men's tennis team. The schedule features several of the most competitive programs in the country, in addition to 11 grueling Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) matches.
NC State, which finished No. 46 nationally in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) final poll last year, will take on 13 teams that were ranked at the end of last spring. The list of top-flight competitors includes No. 5 Virginia, No. 9 Duke, No. 13 Florida State, No. 15 Kentucky, No. 16 South Carolina, No. 27 Clemson, No. 30 Georgia Tech, No. 33 Louisville, No. 34 North Carolina, No. 40 Brown, No. 52 Virginia Tech, No. 64 Miami and No. 65 Old Dominion.
As if that wasn't enough, the red and white will compete in five regular season tournaments, beginning that slate by hosting the Wolfpack Invitational Friday, Sept. 16, through Sunday, Sept. 18. Following that, the team will compete at the UVA Invitational in Charlottesville, Va., the ITA All-American in Chattanooga, Tenn., the USC Invitational in Columbia, S.C., and the ITA Regionals in nearby Chapel Hill, N.C.
After battling on the tournament circuit, the Pack will host 17 matches, including High Point, Gardner-Webb, North Carolina A&T, American University, UNC Greensboro, Yale, Campbell, Navy, UNC-Wilmington, Elon, East Carolina, Duke, Brown, Boston College, Maryland, Georgia Tech and Clemson.
In 12 road treks, NC State will make its way to Old Dominion, Kentucky, Louisville, South Carolina, Wake Forest, Charlotte, Davidson, Virginia Tech, Virginia, North Carolina, Florida State and Miami.
The ACC Championships will be held in Cary, N.C., Thursday, Apr. 20 through Sunday, Apr. 23.
