NC State middle distance runner Leslie Jimison was selected by The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) to the 2005 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America University Division Track & Field/Cross Country Team. Jimison receives second team Academic All-America honors to go with her first-team Academic All-District III honors awarded earlier this month.
Jimison, a senior from Greensboro, N.C., graduated Summa Cum Laude this spring with a perfect 4.00 grade point average in Materials Engineering. She took 10th place in the steeplechase at the ACC Outdoor Championships, placed sixth in the steeple at the Raleigh Relays and finished fourth in the mile at the Carolina Classic. Jimison earned a postgraduate scholarship from the ACC and was named to NC State's top 10-scholar athlete list. An ACC Honor Roll member and an NC State scholar-athlete, Jimison was a Dean's List student as well. She finished 14th in the 3,000m at the 2004 ACC Outdoor Championships and posted top 20 finishes in the mile at the 2004, 2003 and 2002 ACC Indoor Championships. Jimison also ran cross country for the Wolfpack, finishing 10th-overall in this past season's Raleigh Invitational.
In order to be eligible for Academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), must be a starter or an important reserve and be in at least their second season of athletic and academic eligibility at their current school. The complete list of the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America teams will eventually be posted at www.cosida.com.
