RALEIGH, N.C. - In the second game of a doubleheader against Virginia (12-16, 2-0) in a three-game ACC series, the Cavaliers jumped on Shaina Ervin (11-10) in the first inning on a three-run home run from Sara Larquier. They never looked back in shutting out the Wolfpack, 8-0 in six innings. Erin Horn (3-3) recorded the win, while Heather Gelbard's 2-for-3 day at the plate led the NC State (28-17, 1-3 ACC) offense.

The Wolfpack left the bases loaded in the third inning with one out, as Tess Corona singled and Harkey reached on a fielder's choice. After Heather Gelbard singled to left to load the bases, Shanna Smith popped up to short and Abbie Sims struck out to end the threat.

In the fourth, Virginia added to its cushion with a solo home run by Amber McKean to right field for a 4-0 lead.

Jessica Taylor hit a hard single to left field to lead off the inning, but Shaina Ervin struck out Sara Larquier and threw out Taylor, 2-4-6, for a double play. Jenn Wynn flied out to left to end the inning.

Gelbard and Smith singled with two outs, but Sims struck out to end the inning.

The Cavaliers loaded the bases with two outs after a Smith error at short extended the inning. Shaina Ervin walked two batters to load the bases to bring up Elea Crockett. Allison Cuculich misplayed a ground ball from Crockett that allowed three runs to score before Jessica Taylor singled to score Crockett from third for the final 8-0 margin.
