Wolfpack Recruit, Goring, Named Kodak/WBCA All-American

RALEIGH, N.C. - Gillian Goring (Trinidad/University of Arkansas - Fort Smith/Waterloo West of Waterloo, Iowa), a 2005 signee of NC State, was named to the 2005 Junior College/Community College Kodak/WBCA All-America team after guiding her University of Arkansas - Fort Smith squad to its second straight National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region II Championship title. Goring will join the Wolfpack family in 2005-06.
Selection committee members in each of the nine WBCA geographical regions select the ten women's basketball players to be honored.
The 6-foot-7 center averaged just over 18 points per game and eight rebounds per game as a sophomore at UAFS. She also garnered Region II regular season and Region II Tournament MVP honors. Goring was named to the Bi-State Conference All East Division First Team as well.
Goring's UAFS will take on Lake Region State College of North Dakots, today, March 23, at 2 p.m. The NJCAA national tournament began yesterday, March 22, in Salina, Kan.
The honor marks the second All-America nod for Goring. She was named to the second team last year as a freshman at Arkansas-Fort Smith. Goring averaged 15.2 points, 8.4 rebounds and 3.7 blocks, and led her team to the NJCAA tournament for the first time since 1998.
Goring, a native of Trinidad, moved to the United States before her sophomore year of high school and attended Germantown Academy in Fort Washington, Pa. from 1999-2001. While she was there, the 6-foot-7 center averaged 19.0 points per game and 13.0 rebounds per game as a sophomore and 16.0 ppg and 11.0 rpg as a junior. She earned numerous accolades including Parade All-America second team, USA Today All-America second team, Student Sports Junior All-America, USA Today Super 25, USA Today Player to Watch, USA Today Pennsylvania Player of the Year, two-time Nike All-America Camp, Associate Press All-State first team, two-time Street & Smith first team, third team School Sports All-America, Blue Star No. 1, ASGR No 2., Nike Tournament of Champions all-tournament team. Goring then moved to Waterloo, Iowa for her senior year where she attended Waterloo West. In her final year of high school competition she topped her increasingly longer honors list with the following distinctions: Parade first team All-America, Naismith Female Prep Basketball Player of the Year finalist, McDonald High School All-American, WBCA High School All-American Game, ihigh.com first team pre-season All-America, Iowa State all-tournament team, and Des Moines Register All-State Team.
This honor marks the second consecutive for NC State recruits. As a sophomore at Gulf Coast Community College in 2003, current Wolfpack junior Tiffany Stansbury was also named a Kodak/WBCA All-American and was the NJCAA Player of the Year.
