Stansbury & McDowell Named to All-ACC Teams

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Associated Press All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) women's basketball teams for 2005 were released on Tuesday, March 1. NC State's Tiffany Stansbury was named to the second team and Billie McDowell to the third team. The All-ACC first, second and third teams were voted on by 74 members of the Atlantic Coast Sports Writers Association (ACSWA).
The two honors marked the 16th time in NC State history for the Wolfpack to finish with multiple recipients. It was the first All-ACC recognition for both players.
Stansbury, a native of Philadelphia, Pa., is averaging 11.4 points per game overall and 11.1 ppg in ACC games. She has recorded four, 20+ point games - most recent at Wake Forest with 21 points and16 double figure scoring games with a high of 27 against St. Peter's. The junior center is shooting 50.7 percent in all games and 47.9 percent in ACC contests and she is seventh in the ACC for her overall field goal percentage and ninth in ACC games only. Stansbury also leads the team in blocks with 49 total and is third in the ACC with 1.81 blocks per game overall and in ACC games only with 1.79 per game. She is ranked11th all-time for 49 blocks in a season and is just one of seven players in NC State history to record 6 or more blocks in a game. In addition, Stansbury has posted six double doubles this season, most recent against No. 8 North Carolina (13 pts., 15 rebs.)

McDowell, a Lumberton, N.C., native, has been NC State's most improved player this season. The junior three-point shooter is the Wolfpack's leading scorer (11.5 ppg /14.4 ppg in ACC play). Her scoring output from her freshman season to her junior season has more than tripled from 3.0 ppg to 11.5 ppg. McDowell recorded her 500th point of her career in the Wolfpack's win at Wake Forest last Thursday. She has posted a team-best five games with 20 or more points and has notched 15 double figure scoring games. McDowell is shooting 35.5 percent from the behind the arc and has a team-best 30, three-pointers on the year. She hit six three-pointers in a win at Miami and at home against Wake Forest. In doing so, she became just the second player in NC State history to hit six or more in a game, twice in a season
The All-ACC Freshman, All-ACC Defensive and ACC Defensive Player of the Year will be released on Wednesday.
