RALEIGH, N.C. -
Opening Remarks
We just played Virginia here on Thursday, got off to a slow start. We got down by 16 points, but we overcame that deficit and won by six points. So it as a great second half for us. It was definitely a game of two halves, considering we scored 16 points in the first half and 46 in the second. I think our schedule has been really crazy. We played at Maryland, then we had a week off, then we played Virginia, then we had another week off before we played this Thursday at Georgia Tech. Having time off is good, but having that much time close together it can be hard to keep your rhythm and stay on track. I feel like that has been a little difficult for us. We are really working hard to maintain our momentum. We really had it going as we played several games up through the Maryland game. We were on a roll, and then we came to a halt. And had to wait, play a game and wait again. Finding a rhythm and staying there is a challenge now. We really try to vary practices and do some things to help get us in rhythm and be ready down the stretch for our six games before the tournament. We don't have the superstars and we depend on somebody coming through for us every game and it is not necessarily the same person. I think that is somewhat different from the other teams that are fairing well.
Kendra Bell Brought to Team in Last Year and Her Influence
Kendra is a somewhat of a glue for our team. She is one of our co-captains. She leads the team well by her actions when she plays and in tough situations by talking to the team and really helping them to regain focus and get back on track. She is a person who does the little things that make a big difference. She is very good at controlling the tempo and pushing it and pulling it back and move into a set or an offense. She is very knowledgeable of the game. She is probably one of the smartest, if not the smartest players on the team. It's really great to have her at that point guard position. She actually has a very good shot, and sometimes I would like her to put it up more. She is really looking to set other people up first. In the last few games I think she is looking to put her shot up more and I think she needs to heading into the tournament.
