No. 23/24 Wolfpack Takes Flight to Georgia Tech

No. 23 NC State (16-5, 5-3) travels to Atlanta, Ga. to face Georgia Tech (13-7, 4-5) on Thursday, Feb. 10. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m., in Alexander Memorial Coliseum. The meeting will mark the 53rd between the two teams since Jan. 12, 1980. The Wolfpack is fresh off a 62-56 victory over Virginia last Thursday at home. The Wolfpack is 5-2 on the road this season and 2-1 in Atlantic Coast Conference play. NC State remained in the AP Top 25 for the third-straight week after its win against Virginia and moved up in the national standings into the 23rd spot. NC State has won four of its last five games this season, with the lone loss to then No. 1 Duke, 52-49. NC State is shooting 42 percent overall and in ACC play. NC State has seen three or more players reach double figures in 13 of 21 games. The Wolfpack leads the ACC in turnover margin, +4.00 (ST 16.1 turnovers per game, vs. 20.1 topg) and is second in steals (9.75 steals per game). Additionally, the Pack has finished five games with four or more players in double figures and one game with all five starters at the mark (at Virginia Tech). NC State has three players averaging double figures in ACC contests, led by Billie McDowell's 15.6 points per game. She has four games when she has posted 20 or more points. Three players are averaging double figures in conference play, led by McDowell's 15.6 ppg, followed by freshman Khadijah Whittington with 10.9 and junior Tiffany Stansbury with 10.3 ppg. Stansbury continues to lead the squad in rebounds with 7.0 rpg overall and 5.8 rpg in league games. Senior Kendra Bell has been pacing the Pack with 3.38 assists per game in ACC contests, good for 13th in the conference standings.
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are 13-7, 4-5 in the ACC. The squad ended a two-game losing streak with a road win at Wake Forest on Sunday, 40-37. The Jackets have scored under 45 points in two of the last three games. The minimal offense against WFU was not the fewest points scored in a game this season however. Earlier versus Virginia, GT recorded just 38 points in a 61-38 loss at home. Georgia Tech actually has a better road record in ACC games, at 3-2, having won just 1-of-3 games in Atlanta. The lone win came against Clemson, 53-48 on Jan. 26. GT is averaging just under 54 points per game in ACC contests. A trio of underclassmen are guiding the Yellow Jackets this season with a little rebounding help inside by a junior. Freshman guard Chioma Nnamaka and sophomore guard Stephanie Higgs are both averaging around 13 ppg. Both are also averaging double figures in ACC games with Chioma carrying the bulk, dropping 14.2 ppg. Higgs is not far behind with 11.2 ppg. Freshman guard Jill Ingram leads the team in assists with 2.75 apg. Junior forward Jessica Williams is boarding 7.2 rpg overall and even more in ACC games, with 7.4 rpg.
Georgia Tech head coach MaChelle Joseph is 27-22 (.551) in her second season as a head coach. This will be the third meeting between Yow and Joseph; the series is even at 1-1. Yow is 37-15 since the first meeting on Jan. 12, 1980.
