RALEIGH, N.C. - On Saturday, Feb. 19, the No. 70 NC State women's tennis team will host its first doubleheader of the young spring season. The Wolfpack will kick things off with an 11 a.m. match against the UNC Wilmington Seahawks, before taking on the Radford Highlanders at 6:30 p.m. Both matches, free of charge and open to the public, will take place at the newly opened J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center on the NC State campus. The Pack currently owns a spring record of 2-1.
Saturday's doubleheader will serve as the second and third home meets for NC State women's tennis since hosting the Residence Inn North Wolfpack Invitational this past October. In late January, a Saturday doubleheader with Appalachian State and Western Carolina was postponed due to inclement weather for both traveling squads. This past Thursday, Feb. 17, NC State defeated Davidson at home, 6-1.
This weekend Olsen and the team are eager to begin spring team competition on a positive note. In each of Saturday's matches, the team will look to collect the doubles point early on and establish momentum for the following singles rounds.
"We are looking to set the tone of the match early on in doubles," Olsen said. "This team is looking to come out and compete with their heart and passion in these very important dual matches. We really want to establish team intensity early on this year."
Fans of NC State tennis are encouraged to attend this weekend's ribbon-cutting festivities to celebrate the grand opening of the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center with both the men's and women's tennis teams. For more information click here. Celebratory events are scheduled for the women's meets on Saturday, as well as the men's matches on Sunday.
Following Saturday's contests, the women in red and white will resume action against Winthrop on Thursday, Feb. 24. The match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start time at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center on the NC State campus.
