The Three-Team Field
About Iowa State
The Cyclones (1-0) return 32.2 percent of their scoring and 27.4 percent of their rebounding from last year. ISU's 12-player roster includes five true freshmen and two walk-ons. Starters Lyndsey Medders and Megan Ronhovde return from last season's 23-7 NCAA Tournament team. Medders, a junior point guard, is ISU's top returning scorer (9.7 ppg), while Ronhovde, a junior guard/forward, is the Cyclones' top returning rebounder (5.2 rpg). Senior forward/center Brittany Wilkins was ISU's most accurate shooter last season, sinking 61.3 percent of her field goals and hitting 85.7 percent from the charity stripe. This season Iowa State has picked up three wins, including two in exhibition play and a 70-55 win over IUPUI on Nov. 20. Medders led all scorers with 22 points and Ronhovde had a double-double of 11 points, 11 rebounds.
All-Time vs. Big 12 Conference
NC State is 6-10 all-time against Big 12 foes. The Wolfpack is 4-5 on neutral courts, which includes the 2004-05 Paradise Jam win over Nebraska, 55-45 on Nov. 26.
About North Florida
North Florida (1-0) enters the contest with seven new faces this season, but has plenty of experience back as well in the form of four senior starters that return from the 2004-05 season. UNF was decimated by injuries during the 2004-05 campaign and looks to improve upon a 13-16 campaign. The Lady Ospreys will have to do that in a new conference this season and against a new level of competition. UNF moves into the Atlantic Sun this year. UNF returns four senior starters this season (Kayla Sheldon, Jackie Beik, Alana Mountfield and Karli Knudsen) to go along with getting a pair of key players - Anna Haberlien and C.C. Woolfolk - back in the lineup. In its first game this season, the Ospreys defeated Wintrop 73-48 at Winthrop behind a career night by Beik. She posted 27 points and 10 rebounds for her first double-double after four seasons.
All-Time vs. Atlantic Sun Conference
NC State is 6-0 all-time against the 10-team Atlantic Sun Conference and is 3-0 all-time on neutral courts. The last game versus an Atlantic Sun team was on Jan. 2, 1994 versus Florida Atlantic in FAU. The Pack won, 83-76.
About #5 Rutgers
The fifth-ranked Scarlet Knights will open their season with a meeting against North Florida on Friday in the Junkanoo Jam. Rutgers has played just one exhibition game, winning 68-32 over NY/NJ Gazelles on Nov. 19. The squad returns four starters, including preseason All-America candidate Cappie Pondexter. She Rutgers in scoring with 20 points in the exhibition win. Last season 5-foot-9 fifth-year senior averaged a team-high 14.7 ppg. Also returning is the squad's second leading scorer, Avalon Matee, who averaged 12.4 ppg.
All-Time vs. BIG EAST Conference
NC State is 22-12 all-time versus BIG EAST opponents, including a 13-7 all-time record on neutral ground. The Wolfpack last faced a BIG EAST team when the Pack knocked off Louisville, 54-49 in the Paradise Jam to clinch the championship on Nov. 27, 2004. Louisville was a member of Conference USA at the time. NC State followed with a home win over Seton Hall (Coach Yow's 600th all-time win at NC State), 65-36 on Dec. 2.
